Child Play Therapy Services

At Mindwell Therapy, we understand the unique needs of children and the power of play in their development and healing. Our child play therapy services are designed to provide a warm, safe, and supportive environment where children can express their feelings, explore their experiences, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses play, the natural language of children, to help them communicate and process their emotions. Through play, children can express themselves in ways that are comfortable and familiar to them, making it easier for them to work through their thoughts and feelings.

Our Approach

Our play therapy sessions are led by compassionate and highly trained therapists who specialize in working with children. We use a variety of play techniques, including:

  • Creative Play: Art, music, and drama activities that encourage self-expression and emotional exploration.

  • Structured Play: Games and activities designed to address specific therapeutic goals and improve social skills.

  • Free Play: Allowing children to choose their own activities, fostering independence and self-discovery.

  • Child Centered Play Therapy Trained (Rebecca): CCPT allows children to express emotions and process experiences through play. In this supportive, non-directive approach, children lead the sessions, fostering healing and growth in a safe environment.

Benefits of Play Therapy

Play therapy can be beneficial for children dealing with a range of issues, including:

  • Emotional and Behavioral Challenges: Helping children manage anger, anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties.

  • Trauma and Loss: Providing a safe space for children to process traumatic experiences and grief.

  • Family Changes: Assisting children in adjusting to changes such as divorce, relocation, or new family members.

  • Social Skills Development: Improving communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.

  • Self-Esteem and Confidence: Building a positive self-image and helping children feel more confident in their abilities.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Enhancing the ability to think critically and resolve conflicts effectively.

  • Impulse Control: Teaching children to manage impulses and develop better self-regulation.

  • Learning Difficulties: Supporting children with attention, focus, and academic challenges.

  • Coping Strategies: Equipping children with healthy ways to manage stress and difficult emotions.

What to Expect

During the initial session, we will meet with both the child and their parents or guardians to discuss concerns and establish goals for therapy. Subsequent sessions will focus on building a trusting relationship with the child and engaging in play activities tailored to their needs.

Our therapy room is equipped with a variety of toys, art supplies, and games that are carefully selected to support therapeutic work.

** Sessions with the children are typically 35 minutes and then you can schedule a 15 minute virtual check in with the child therapist the same week as your childs session.

Parental Involvement

We believe that involving parents or guardians in the therapeutic process is crucial for the child’s progress. We strive to meet with you weekly for 15 minutes of a virtual check in.
